Beauty

In I Peter 3, Peter describes the beauty of a wife coming from her behavior, not her looks. She is to be pure and reverent. Beauty does not come from hair, jewelry, or clothes. How come we get a new hairstyle or new clothes to change the way we look and how we feel about ourselves? We need to work on our character instead.

It is inner beauty that matters. She is to have a gentle, quiet spirit. Google says this means a woman should have peace, humility, calm strength, and self-control. We are to do right and not fear to be like the holy women of old.

Women in the Bible submitted to their husbands. Today's women are girl bosses, feminists, and independent. This could contribute to the breakdown in the family today. Also, these attitudes affect how we see ourselves.

I Peter 3:1Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, ² when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. ³ Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. ⁴ Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. ⁵ For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, ⁶ like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

    honor him, for he is your lord.

Proverbs 31:30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Isaiah 61:3and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

Ezekiel 16:25At every street corner you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, spreading your legs with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by.

Ezekiel 28:17Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
