Delight in the Lord

Delight in the Lord

I was reading Psalm 37 today. I have always like verse 4: Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Then, I was reading Psalm 119:16, 24. Also, see Psalm 1:2. I saw one way to delight in the Lord is to be in His Word. Psalm 119 talks about seeking after God and obeying His Word. The word delight is mentioned several times throughout the chapter. The delight starts with reading and studying the Bible and then obeying what the Word says. We come to know God through His Word. If we love Him, we obey the Bible. God loves us and He wants to answer our prayers. He truly cares about us. He wants to give us our wants and our desires and our dreams. He even gives us desires. Plus, the Word may inspire what we desire. He is good and faithful.

I googled what it means to "delight yourself in the Lord." Google says, "to delight in the Lord is to find your deepest joy, satisfaction, and peace in God rather than the temporary things of the world. Rooted in Psalm 37:4, it means aligning your heart's desires with His will, making you pliable and trusting in His plans." The Hebrew word means to experience pleasure and to be soft and pliable.

We need a personal, intimate relationship with God. We build that over time just like our other relationships. We build trust. When we really love God, we love His Word, and we want His will for our lives. We want to please Him. Our hearts become one and we want the same things.

Deuteronomy 30:9Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors,
