Goodbye to the Pond
In a few days, it is the series finale of Hallmark show "The Way Home." It will be sad to see it go. No more jumps in the pond. If I am honest, it does not surprise me that it got cancelled. Hallmark placed season 3 on Friday night, which was not good for ratings. It has some aspects that are taboo for Hallmark viewers, as well. Also, in my opinion, season 3 was awful and the worst season of the series. I did not like the tempo of the show or the writing.
It was hard to become engaged in the time periods of the 70s and now the 20s. Del and Colton had this huge love story, but we only saw pieces of it. It was more tell than show. And now the series is out of time. Viewers prefer to see how these characters and relationships develop, however.
Season 1 was the best season by far. It was magical. It centered on the relationships between three generations of women. But that magic got lost along the way. I enjoyed season 2, but things went downhill from there.
One thing about the last 2 seasons is that the tempo of the episodes goes by so fast. I just want to say slow down and take more time with the character development. There is almost too much mystery and too many new characters. I would really love all the mysteries to be explained. I think once they introduce a new time period that they want to explore that period and its characters as much as possible. Unfortunately, since the show is ending with season 4, we have lost out on more exploration of the 20s.
There has been a lot of mystery. I hope the series is able to tie up loose ends. For example, there were scenes in season 3 with an older woman and a boy, Colton. Did we ever find out who the older woman was? I suppose it was to show that Colton knew about the pond as a small boy. But the Colton we meet in the 70s was not a time traveler. We know he traveled twice. He never told Jacob and Kat about the pond and time travel. He tried to keep them away from the pond.
The biggest mystery of all is why the Landrys are able to use the pond to time travel? How and why is it possible? How does the pond know where the traveler needs to go? One thing I do not understand is why the pond only travels backward, so Alice and Kat are unable to go to the future and characters from the past cannot come to present day?
The best part of the show was the healing and restoration of broken relationships. We know that we may want to change our past, but we cannot. That is a main message in the show that they cannot change the past. We see several characters want to time travel after they lose loved ones. They want to save their lives. We have seen it with Kat and her father, Colton after Rick died, and Elliot and his mom. We see the Landry family come back together throughout the show.
Alas, we are coming to the end. I hope it ends well. Tell me what you think about the show.
