Lamentations 3
I was reading Lamentations 3 for my Bible study today. Chapter 3 is dark at first. Our boy Jeremiah was going through a very difficult time. They tried to kill him by throwing him in a pit. He was saddened by what was happening with Israel at the time.
Then, there is a glimmer of hope in verse 21. Jeremiah's memories gave him hope.
21 Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
God is always faithful! Each day gives us a fresh start, a new beginning. Verse 24 states that God is our portion. He is everything that we need. Whatever God has planned is worth waiting for.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
26 it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
We need to seek after God more when we go through dark times. We need to trust in God's goodness. Also, do not complain. Praise instead. Remember all that God has done for You, and thank Him for it. God can save and deliver His people.
Lamentations mentions taking accountability for your actions. We must suffer the consequences for our sins. Thankfully, God forgives us. He redeems.
40 Let us examine our ways and test them,
and let us return to the Lord.
55 I called on your name, Lord,
from the depths of the pit.
56 You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears
to my cry for relief.”
57 You came near when I called you,
and you said, “Do not fear.”
These verses show us that when Jeremiah was in the pit, he turned to God. God was near to him. God told him not to be afraid. Jeremiah had to wonder if he was going to die.
