Pond Thoughts

Does anyone have anything to say about the series finale of "The Way Home?" I will share some of my opinions. There will be spoilers. At the beginning, with the scene again where Kat asks, how are you here? Like she does not know that Alice and Jacob time travel. I will say that in the series, the Pond has not let someone die outside of their time. Tessa became ill when she went to the 1800s, Kat was shot, Jacob, and now, Eliot. But they all survived and circumstances worked out.

We still did not get a good explanation about KC. We don't know about KC's name or how they have the ring. To me, the ring pointed to Alice being the mom. Plus, it was weird that Alice gave Jacob the ring for Abby. And why is KC so close to Sam? It does make more sense that KC would be Jacob's daughter since Alice is younger and unmarried because KC is friends with Sam. And Sam is up there in age, so time is of the essence. KC said everything is changing, but we never got more explanation than that. Apparently, they told Sam a lot. I think they may have changed the plan with this character because the show ended.

I am trying to remember if we got any resolution with Max and Alice. I am assuming they end up together. We do know Alice broke up with Noah. I do prefer her with Max than Noah. In fact, I thought there was more chemistry with Alice and Max than Kat and Eliot.

Here's a question: will the time travelers reveal to their significant others about the pond? Alice never told her father. Does she tell Max? KC is a time traveler, so does Abby get told about it? How can you keep a secret like that from your partner?

I think throwing in a time traveler from the future was a bit much when they had so many other time periods. We saw less and less of certain cast members as the show went on.

I don't like the fact that Kat closed the paper. The woman needs a job. She apparently thinks she can just write a book. I don't think a book about her family's history will sell very well. I was thinking she could write books about the she and Alice's time travel adventures. Those books would do better. Also, when she was packing up the office, did she come across Goodwin's gun? The town is also okay with the paper ending. Well, we know she was doing more time travel than working at the paper. Another thing is that she would not have access to the archives like she has when she is editor of the paper.

I thought there would be some kind of explanation about how the Landrys can time travel. Alexandra Clark said that that would take away from the magic. It does let the series continue on if someone picks it up.

I thought there was a nod to a possible season 5 when Jacob told Thomas and Susanna that he would bring Kat back. Then, Thomas mentions the dream he had of the blue house. At first, I thought he was talking about the porch swing. Then, I realized he said our blue house. Jacob assumed it was the Landry house, his home. Thomas did say it was Jacob's time and he knew it was his time. I would love to see him in the future. I find it hard to believe that the pond cannot take someone from the past to the future. It occurred to me it may take both Kat and Jacob to get someone from the past to time travel.

Thomas seems to have a knowing about when the time travelers show up. He was by the pond a lot when Kat came to the 1800s in season 2. Thomas has a connection with the pond or perhaps, it is just with the Landrys. Maybe Susannah told him to come back because of Elijah's health. I think Thomas stayed in Port Haven at that point and did not return to New York. We do not know where Thomas is buried. But that could be a clue he went to the future. Or is it all a red herring? We assume he wrote that song. For Jasper to find it in Port Haven, Thomas must have been in Port Haven when he wrote it.

We still know little about Griffin. What happened to him? I found it interesting that he told Alice that they may not understand the ways of the pond. He found out about the pond from Alice. Well, he may have heard some tales from Fern.

I understand that much of this season would be based on building the 1920s and its set of characters. However, we were told about Cliff and Fern without being shown their relationship. The same thing happened with Jacob and Abby. We could even be given more details about Alice and Max. I know it is because this turned out to be the last season. However, I would say, I thought there could have been more shown with Colton and Del in the 1970s last season. I just wished they slowed down the pace of the episodes and dig into more of the characters. We could have seen more of Grayson.

I knew Jacob would get a chance to see Elijah again before Elijah passed away. And that happened in the finale. Elijah said he prayed for Jacob to come back, so it was nice that they reunited. Elijah got to impart his wisdom.

We never found out why Del's horse got spooked. And who did Del see walking into the woods? It did not look like Colton to me. And I miss the dog. Del sure moved on quickly with Sam. Which reminds me regarding Sam helping with the police when Eliot got shot. I don't know what the gun laws are in Canada, however.

It was nice that they wanted peace in the present between the 3 founding families. The families seemed to get along in 1920s and especially in the 1970s. And what is the deal with the founding families? Why do they matter so much? Where is Rita when we need her?

What about Kat and Eliot's wedding? They finally got engaged. If Eliot wanted kids, why would he wait to propose and marry? They are in their 40s. Was it before Jacob's wedding? One would think. If years went by then, Kat and Eliot could have had a baby. We get to see Jacob and Abby get married. It is kind of weird to me that the ghosts/figments are there. Which reminds me, we never see Jacob go back to the 90s. Does he get any more time with Colton? That would have been nice to see.

We will never meet Claire. Nick tells Alice that she will. Interesting how he says it. Nick finally gets his boat. He has moved back home.

Lastly, there are all the questions about Tessa. Eliot now says she is alive. We got nothing about the clock or the 11:11 or the TS Eliot. She must have bought the house, so she did live. But how did everybody get out but Cliff? They show everyone just standing still when the catacombs were about to be blown up. Maybe the other Augustine and police guy died. I don't know.

In the end, Kat and Alice jump. The last time we see it, for now. "A Landry always has hope." The show did not really fit with the Hallmark brand, so it could do better somewhere else. Everyone is pushing for Netflix. Well for now, goodbye to the pond. "Fair thee well."
